Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a cerebrovascular condition which may cause a clot formation into the brain sinuses . CVT is a serious illness that affects all age groups including children. It can cause death in up to 10% of cases. The main symptom of this type of stroke is headaches and stroke symptoms.
Common risk factors
The most common risk factors including female gender, dehydration, head and neck inflammation, injury or head trauma, obesity, blood genetic disorders and cancer.
CVT common symptoms:
The symptoms may be different depending on the location of the sinus affected in the brain. However, the most indicative CVT sign is headaches, blurred vision, speech problems, weakness, and vomiting. In addition, severe CVT symptoms are seizures, coma, and death.
CVT medical diagnosing and treatment:
Mainly CVT diagnosis depends on evaluating the venous blood flow in the patient brain by using MRI venogram and CT venogram. Genetic disorder or family history case plays a major role in CVT diagnosis. To prevent CVT reoccurrence anticoagulants is considered be given to patient.
CVT prevention:
Healthy lifestyles may contribute to decrease the incident rate of CVT such as low-fat food, avoid smoking, exercise, diabetes control and regular medical flow-up.
